Steps for Keeping Everyone Happy

One of the best ways for securing low rates and top-notch coverage is to protect your laundry from claims. When you do so, you are protecting your customers, your employees and your investment.

First and foremost, the more you can do to stay on top of keeping the lint boxes, screens and vents clean, the better. Make sure that your attendants are removing lint from the screens after every shift and that you schedule regular maintenance to remove the lint in the vents. Reference your equipment manual for the manufacturer’s vent cleaning recommendations.

Secondly, take all safety precautions. Simply installing a camera system may reduce your premium.

Have a clear view of the street from inside the laundry. When windows are free of posters and signs, people can see what is going on from the roadway. As a result, you become less of a target for theft and your customers will feel safer.

Training attendants to think of safety first will help to reduce slip and fall accidents – the industry’s number one claim. Your attendants are your eyes and ears. They should:

  • Remind parents that children are not allowed in laundry carts or on folding tables
  • Place caution signs near a wet floor
  • Mop spills as soon as they occur

Finally, keep all of your administrative files accurate and up-to-date. If you have an accident at your laundry, be sure that all the paperwork is in order. Use an accident report form, save the video footage from the day of the occurrence, take pictures of scene and keep copies of all police reports.

Pay your insurance premium on time and for the right amount. When you enter into a contract, you want to be serviced like a good customer. The insurance company wants to be treated like a partner. Look at this relationship as a win-win proposition.
